Soot Tag or Spider Web?

When this Ferndale home had a fie in and upstairs bedroom an adjoining hallway suffered very little actual fire damage, but plenty of smoke and soot could be seen.

Those aren’t cobwebs you are seeing in the corner but soot tags. Soot tags are one of the most common visible instances of fire damage. As particles combust, they become charged. And they form “soot tags” in areas of low-circulation. Clients often believe that the smoke attached itself to spider webs they had before the fire. Quite the contrary—soot tags are created when soot particles bond together and cling to the wall.
